| | | Re: Bowland Just back from Bowland. Thanks to all who supplied info.
We had time to visit:-
Dunsop Bridge.
Stocks Reservoir
Gisburn Forest
The Wild Boar farm
Beacon Fell country park.
I think the Forest of Bowland must be one of Englands best kept secrets and the walk up the valley from Dunsop Bridge must be one of Bowlands best kept secrets.

most people do not know about it or choose to ignore it and goto the more touristy places like the lakes or yorkshire dales, so it can be quieter
Its quite a large area, ive been visiting different parts of it for quite a long time and still havent discovered all of it!
The OS map is reccomended, OL41
Some of my photos here watred/Bowland - A80 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
and here watred/Bowland - G7 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
its a wonderfull view from the jubilee tower (near Lancaster) especially on a clear evening.
I havent spent much time over at the Gisburn forest/Stocks Res area so hoping to spend some time there within the next few weeks. |

I see that you've been to Beacon Fell Country park ( photo 'Bowland 023' ), I took some photos in that same place. Wasn't it dark and eerie! The silence was amazing, not even a bird until you emerged from the trees. we spent a lot of time there, there's such a range of habitats.
Gisburn forest is similar - it's a lot bigger. The paths are colour coded and easy to follow. A free map is supplied at the Stocks Res. car park.
