| | | Channel Islands On saturday I am setting off for two weeks in the Channel Isles, staying on both Jersey and Guernsey and also intending to visit Herm and Sark. Are there any sites which are a must to visit? I already have a list of places I want to visit as long as my arm, but don't want to miss anything

Aaron | From Guernsey: If you are lucky and there is a trip going to Brechou it is well worth it. There are trips to see the puffins.. tho in 26yrs of living there I never managed to get there. Of course Herm is a must.. the common and shell beach. It is a gorgeous place to stay overnight when all the visitors have left for the day.
L'Ancresse common is also a must.. watch out for mindless golfers though. And any of the cliff walks will be glorious. Try to visit the german cemetery below Fort George as that will put you in the right place to take a walk in the bluebell woods. If you want more details you might consider contacting the Societe Guernesiaise. A visit to Sark is worth a visit as is the tiny islet of Lihou on the west coast of Guernsey but you will need to find out tide times as it has a tidal causeway.
Jersey (hiss hiss boo boo) Of course there is the Jersey Zoo, despite not liking zoos in general this one has a good feeling. There is an orchid farm near the zoo. I cant remember the name though sorry. Much the same habitat as Guernsey and they to have a Societe Jersaise.
If there is anything more you want to know please feel free to PM me for my email addy.
One thing I would say is dont (unless it is a particular interest) visit the two underground hospitals... a terrible experience!!!!

jaki | think I might give these a miss. I work in a hospital, and underground - would quite like a few weeks away from that environment |

| | | Re: Channel Islands When I visited Guernsey I remember the rockpools there being absolutely great, it should be the same pretty much all around the coast. Also the ferry from Guernsey to Herm might let you see Puffins and other Auks, I saw puffins when I went. I can't remember what time of year I went, but on Herm all the paths were completely covered in caterpillars, I'm not sure which species. When any car came down the road it wasn't a pretty sight!
Hope you have a nice trip,
Guy |

Guy | You sure it was Herm Guy .. there are no cars on Herm other than farm tractors.. same in Sark
Lucky you seeing the puffins, in all the 26yrs I lived there I never saw them once.
Yes the rock pools are great.
Vazon Bay is mostly sandy and if you are there when there is a particularly low tide you might just be able to see the remains of a forest at the northern end. Have fun.. and this is the first time in nearly 7 years since leaving gsy that I feel remotely 'homesick' you should have a great time Tigrxx send us a postcard

| | | Re: Channel Islands Just to let you know I had an excellent fortnight. As well as Jersey and Guernsey I also spent a day on Herm. Loads of flowers, insects, birds, even more photos...
Some highlights? Hundreds of Green Lizards, fields of Loose-flowered Orchids, Ant-lions, Field Crickets, Jersey Buttercup etc etc.
thanks for the tips - managed to visit some of the sites mentioned and several more.
