1000 Photos

The gallery has had a bit of a makeover during the past few days and we're going to spend the next month adding many more images to every category to really help build up the content.

In fact, we've set ourselves the target of 1000 photos by the end of February. As of this morning, there are 183 photos so there's plenty of work to do. As such, we'd be really grateful if you could help out by sending us your wildlife and landscape photos so that we can reach the target within the next 30 days.

You can either register on the gallery and start uploading pics straight away, or you can email them to us at

images at wildaboutbritain.co.uk

However, if you upload the images via your own login then you can also add details about you and links to your website etc.

Ideally, photos should be 1024x768 and 75% quality jpeg, to help keep the filesize fairly small, but if you're not too sure how to edit your photos then we'll be happy to do it for you. However, if you do fancy editing them yourself then the new version of the free Picasa 2 software is a very good place to start. You can download Picasa here

http://www.picasa.com/

Thanks

Stuart

1000 pictures

I think we can help towards your 1K, you'll be busy approving entries though !. I like the revised look for the gallery, much better. Are there other sections to add, eg. trees ?.

When you have logged in and finished uploading, is there a "log out" or are we auto logged out after a time ?

Thanks Mike, your help is much appreciated. We'll certainly continue to add categories as they are needed and if numbers are strong for particular subcategories, then we'll also break them out into there own categories as well - as we've already done with the butterflies from the insects section.

The log out link appears if you are logged in and you rub your mouse over the @ button at the top of the screen. It's not particularly clear so we've also just added an orange log out button below the mainmenu. Once you're logged in, you remain logged in until you log out again, even if you leave the site or shut down and return later.

1000 pics

Hi Stuart,

I have been checking out the new look and new pics on the gallery just now. I think it is all great. Your elephant hawkmoth pics are great by the way, I was well jealous. I have a confession to make, I acidently rated it rubbish while moving my cursor over the stars to see what each meant. Hah haaa, sorry dude. I actually thought it was the best pic of the lot, and probably on the whole board, I know the moth is a showy one anyway, what I am getting at is the contrast in the picture and the effect of it clinging to the twig. Anyway, I made up for the rating by giving your others good marks, which they are worth.

I read about the 1000 photo aim, well, I decided to take a look in my album and see what would be suitable. I have lots and lots of good pictures, but many do not really fall into a catagory as they are of things like feathers and Fox and Badger holes and tracks and common signs seen in the country. Still I will send what I can, we are not far off 500 now : )

Hi Woodlandguy,

No problem with rating the pic rubbish...I could reset the rating but even with zero it stills makes it onto the leaderboard as highest ratings

I've added a 'Miscellaneous' album to the gallery so feel free to add all types of wildlife-related pictures in there.

Well on the way to 500 and it's only the second day of February Many thanks for adding for your photos, it's great to see all the different albums starting to fill up with pics.

Cheers

Stuart

Cool 1000 pics

601 and counting! Well done - the pics of Wales are beautiful and a really good ad. for the area. I'll try to get my batteries the right way round this week and pop out for some pics of my own. Thanks to all who are taking part in this exercise.

Looks like you're well on the way to the 1000 target. I'll see what I can dig out from the box in the cupboard. Not too sure they're up to the standard of the pics on the site so far but there may be something that'll be of use.

Best of luck with reaching 1k

Just a couple of hundred photos to go and we'll have made the target for the gallery! We've had an absolutely amazing response so far with lots of superb photos from all over the UK.

I've got quite a few bird photos to sort through this weekend and I managed to get some pictures of the snow around the peak district yesterday, but we still need quite a few more pictures if we're to get to 1000.

So please check in the loft, dig through the boxes under the stairs or head out to the hills this weekend and let's get this 1k target in the bag.

Thanks

Stu

A Thousand Thanks

Following massive support from many contributors, we've managed to reach our target of 1000 photos in the gallery this morning. Technically it's still the 28 February in some parts of the world and with this being the global Internet, I'm happy to announce that we managed to beat the deadline

We'd like to say an enormous thankyou to everyone who has helped us acheive the target and we look forward to seeing lots more of your photographs as Spring arrives the UK.

Next job, we need to start naming all of the entries So if you'd like to help out then simply add the common name and scientific name - if you know it - together with any description or keywords information in the comments box under the relevant photograph in the gallery and we'll update the details at the first opportunity.

If you haven't visited the gallery yet, be sure to take a look at some of the stunning pictures that have been sent in from all over the British Isles.

A thousand thanks for all of your help

Stuart

I needn't have used the frog EEK in my last post about naming the pictures. I went and got some lunch only to find that Mike (fbcpmike) has just added over a hundred names and descriptions whilst I was out.

Cheers Mike, it's certainly a big help.

Hopefully you should be able to see a block of smilies on the right of the posting box when you create or reply to a message. Just place your cursor in your text where you want the smiley to appear and then click on the one you from smilies group...

If you can't see the smilies then let me know and I'll see if we can change some of the settings in the forum adminsitration area.

Now that's how I thought it worked, the block of smileys are there but when I click on one the page pans back to the top and the cursor disappears, so I have to click back in the "reply to thread" box to continue typing.

Ok, I've just tried it in IE6 and it works, I use Firefox1, so I've just tried Netscrape7 as well and that's also bad, does the same thing (not too surprising as they both have the same rendering engine). It seems that none of the commands in the line above the box "B I ------- Close all tags" are working either ????

Anybody else having probs with Firefox ?.

I'm not too sure what the problem can be Mike...I'm using Firefox for this post and and yet I'm not getting the same problems. The smilies are working and the text tools seem to be OK as well.

Ok, after a bit of scratching around I fixed it. This machine is configured behind a proxy server, set to bypass certain url's. It was set to bypass wildaboutbritan.com but got confused when it was redirected to the .co.uk url.
What stumped me was that the post icons were working but not the others.

Sorry if I caused you any problems.
