| | | Image size for the website Hi,
I just recently aquired a new digital camera and was just wondering about the requirements for the site.
The dimension/pixels for the few shots I have taken so far are 3872 x 2592. This is the large setting on my camera. There also seems to be the medium and small which are 2896 x 1944 and 1936 x 1296 respectively.
These are still too large for the site as I believe the max is 1280 x 1024, or less than 500kb.
The quality of the image can be changed such as JPEG basic, normal or fine. Also the RAW setting. Maybe these will reduce the size.
Any feedback would be appreciated. |

Put them in Picasa
Select the image
Go to export
Resize to 1024 pixels - image quality Normal
Hey presto - just right for the site |

Any feedback would be appreciated. | i'd be inclined to set it to jpeg fine which is the large best quality setting , then resize it for the site using gimp , pse or picasa or similar. If you take nbig shots in camera then resize you have them big if you need them , take small shots in camera and if you need them big you will be stuffled

What software are you using to edit you pictures? |

Picasa is a free program which catalogues your images and you can make edits to them - cropping, contrast, sharpening etc as well as resizing |

What software are you using to edit you pictures? | technically the tiff is bigger but forget that as it will take ages to buffer , also gjf may not have a raw capable camera - like i said set the biggest jpeg

What software are you using to edit you pictures? | Well I have photoshop CS2, but haven't used it much yet. I also have Nikon's Picture Project software which I have used to manage the few shots so far. Nothing too deep at the moment. |

Tiff with my images is 3 times larger than RAW..I know that, so why I put it was smaller is beyond me! |

Simply go to Image, Image size. there you can put the largest pixel size at say 880, (the optimum size for WAB) the other size will take care of its self.
Then click on save as, and select jpeg. a window will open offering you the chance to set the quality. Select around 8, and then click OK.
Your image will now be perfect for WAB.
Doing it this way, you've still got your original image untouched, with a seperate copy ready for the internet. |

TIFFs are a perfect copy of the image, with no compression applied, hence the file size is so large. For Internet use TIFFs would be hopelessly large. jpegs are just fine. |

| | | Re: Image size for the website I have noticed that some people new to digital photography are unsure how to resize, save or crop their images for WAB so I have put a tutorial together on my workflow if I was shooting in JPEG. The tutorial is only for Photoshop CS2 but if anyone wanted the same tutorial using a different image editor let me know. Any questions contact me. http://www.dawney.co.uk/misc/workflow01.html
