Wild News

We're currently adding the final touches to our new-look news website at www.wildnews.co.uk and we'd love to hear any comments you may have on how we can improve the newspaper.

If you've got any suggestions for additional features or facilities that you'd like to see on the site then please send them to:

email at wildaboutbritain.com

We're moving over all the old articles at the moment and should hopefully be finished by the end of the week.

As always, if you'd like to get involved in helping out then drop us a line and let us know where you'd like to help out.

Cheers

Stuart

Stuart,

Initially it looks good, but I have not had time to gather comments as you may need to sort out something else first.

There is a marked difference when rendered between browsers, IE6 displays fine with the news stories placed between the "main menu" and the "site tools - vote".
However with Firefox and Netscape7 the news stories are pushed to the far right, the other side of the "site tools - vote" box, so you dont see the stories just a blank area between the menu - site tools.

Firefox is fast becoming a contender to IE, and it parses pages "correctly", at least a lot better than IE, take this example - most people regard the "Alt" tag in images as a tooltip, it's not, it is supposed to be for text only browsers to render in place of the image. "Title" is the correct tooltip, Firefox displays "Title", IE (incorrectly) displays "Alt".
Cross browser compatability is a REAL pain.

Mike.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your feedback. We had it all fixed for firefox yesterday, then accidentally deleted the code...doh!

We're definitely looking at getting IE and Firefox compatability. IE because it's so popular and Firefox because it is by far the best browser (and getting more popular).

We'll hopefully have it sorted fairly soon.

Let me know if you spot any others

Cheers

Stuart

Yup, that seems to have got it.

I do like the layout / colours looks good.

I have notice another thing on going around a few of the pages -
where you have "More...." + bullet points on the bottom left of the center section, if that gets close to the menu boxes "<< Start <Prev", the more runs into the menu.
On IE6 the menu sits under the bullets, on Firefox the menu sits over the bullets, either way it seems to need some space between the two.

That's all I have seen so far, keep at the good work.

Mike.

Thanks Mike, we didn't spot that one until you mentioned it, but it should be sorted out now.

If anyone has got any ideas on extra features etc they will always be welcomed.

Also, if you find any areas of the site difficult to navigate or read then please let us know and we'll see where we can make changes.

Thanks

Stuart

Thanks Jo-grez, it's finally starting to take shape and we've started to link the different websites together using the top-right menu to make life abit easier.

As always, if you come across any news stories, photographs or info that can go on any of the sites be sure to send it to us.

Cheers

Stuart

During the next couple of days we'll be adding regional sections to the paper that cover the Southwest, Southeast, Midlands, North, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

This will enable more local stories to be added to Wild News that wouldn't usually go in the Uk-wide parts of the site. Stories can be submitted in the usual, the 'category' drop down menu will just have the new extra options added.
