TV Guide and Books & Magazines

How about members posting a thread containing information on forthcoming television programmes etc that refer to British Wildlife?

If you tend not to scan the newspapers too much for TV listings, this has the potential to be a good source of info.

Also, if there are any good books/magazines out there you would recommend to people.

I'll kick it off by recommending a fantastic butterfly identification book.

"Pocket Guide to the Butterflies of Great Britain and Ireland" is a 144 page book describing all the species of butterflies. The reason I like this one, is that it shows illustrations of both the upper and underside of butterflies.

Written by Richard Lewington, published by BWP (British Wildlife Publishing).
ISBN 0 9531399 1 3

Can I follow with:
"Wild Guides Britain's Dragonflies". a 168 page book covering all the British Dragonflies and Damselflies along with 10 potential vagrant species. It has the most marvelous photos of each species as well as Adult ID, Egg & Larva, Behaviour, Breeding Habitat and Population && Conservation. Well worth having for the photographs alone.

Written by Dave Smallshire and Andy Swash, published by WildGuides Ltd.(English Nature)

ISBN 1 903657 04 0

Yeah great, it would be very useful to have a 'what's on tv and radio' guide.

We've got another thread from a few months ago about books that people can't live without, that we could add with this thread and build a recommended guide to books, DVDs, software etc.

Ultimately, I think we'll put in a permanent place in the reference section, but until then keep posting suggestions here.

I'll see what we can do with the tv guide, but it shouldn't be too much of a job to setup the template for a running diary.

Stuart

I agree nightshade. I've got quite a few insect books, that for some reason, the author feels are most useful if the image is printed actual size

Lots of blank space on every page and the odd spec of a drawing with a 30 word description - useless. Only an idiot would buy them...DOH!

I'll add to the list when I've dug them all out to check the author's name etc, but there aren't many that I'll be able to recommend.
