Re: Member Rankings

I think it is a lovely fun way to recognise how much people contribute to this friendly site. When you get nice messages congratulating you on your new title it often comes as a surprise. It is lovely that people notice and say nice things.Often for me it makes my day especially if I have been feeling down so long may it Reign

Re: Member Rankings

Goodness me, what have I started?

Sorry folks and no offence to anyone but I'm afraid I'm with Hornbeam on this - it is a bit off-putting and makes the site seem a bit 'cranky' and masonic-like (whoops! - no offence to any masonic members!!) with such grand and irrelevant titles. Also, makes me wonder how many other potential members have been lost?

As to its use as a guide to posting nos - these are shown separately!

Like Hornbeam, I'm all for fun but personally would prefer to stay as an 'active member' - or is the acceptance of a commission compulsory on reaching an appropriate no. of postings?

Re: Member Rankings

People are taking this so very seriously lighten up what does it really matter a majority of people dont seem to mind and as I said I dont think of it in that way I love to praise people and recieve it for contributing to the site. You dont have to post as many as possible to get there most people dont even realise how much they have posted until they are thanked for their contributions.I for one didnt even know I had reached my 3000 until wild woman congratulated me.I for one am glad people think I am worthy I dont I am just a chatterbox.Oh and Boddie you should bow to me before you call me names. What did it mean anyway

Re: Member Rankings

it tends to be automatic , and as most people like it, it is probably here to stay - as has been said above it is just a bit of fun and as far as i know no one else has ever had a problem with it,

I guess if you really dont want to be "promoted" you could always pm studh and ask him to alter your profile accordingly but it might be easier to roll with it and possibly even get into the community spirit that this site is known for.

Re: Member Rankings

Jeff you can stay an active member thats no problem at all.

I am sorry that you both disagree with something that has worked for the last three years. Dan Salter did not know what it meant either. But do you know what? He asked. And with that he understood.

Its a bit of fun guys. Chill out. Just because you dont like it does not mean its wrong

Re: Member Rankings

Fair enough Boddie. But I'm just coming at it from the perspective of a new member or perhaps someone who looks at the site for the 1st time, and it does seem more than a bit of a co-incidence that two fairly new members have thought it a bit off-putting. How many other casual visitors have been put off to the extent of not signing up I wonder?

Also, just because a nucleus of long standing members do like it doesn't make it right!

Re: Member Rankings

Do you suggest we change it then Jeff? Who might this nucleus be and, subsequent to which, who are the periphery?

I became a member in March this year. My aim was, and still is, to share my photographs and interest with other members and to learn more about wildlfe. The ranking is purely a bit of fun. Well it seems OK for the other 3616 members!

Conversly, how many people have joined to enjoy such a 'fun' feature.

Just looking at the comments made by new members when they join would also suggest that they join for the much wider participation ... WAB

Re: Member Rankings

I cant imagine too many people fail to join because they feel that there is a serious heirachy on here. I am sure its reasonably obvious as a bit of fun

Certainly not, if it's felt that most members (perhaps even all - except for Hornbeam & me of course!) are happy with it. However, a brief explanation of the 'rankings' on the home page might be helpful for newcomers and casual visitors to the site.

Anyway, I'm saying no more on the subject for fear of reaching officer status by the end of tonight! As I said before - no offence intended to anyone. I'll go back to the 'Grumpy Old Men' site now.

Re: Member Rankings

Can I just chip in here? If you know what the member titles mean then a 'newbie' can work out who's been here longest and will be able to tell you why you just made a mess of something (posting and photo etc). So it is rather handy .

Re: Member Rankings

I'm not seriously bothered by your ranking system and as I said much earlier - its quite common on forums to indicate who has been around longest and had the most to say. In reality, we all form our opinions on the quality of posts and not the quantity. I just felt uncomfortable with your terminology, but if that's the way you want it - who am I to object?

Someone said they didn't know what "quasi chivalric imperialism" meant.
"quasi" means almost or not really
"chivalric" relates to orders of chivalry like Commanders and Knights
"imperialism" relates to empires
Pretty obvious isn't it?

PS You have 3,600 members but only 26 currently active - so where are the non-active members now? Dormant or fled the empire?

"Turmoil has engulfed the WAB Empire. The dispute over empirical hierarchical nomenclature has split the Congress. Hoping to resolve the matter with a blockade of deadly humour, the residents of Planet WAB have responded in the only way known to them ....

While the Assembly of the Empire endlessly debates this alarming chain of events, the Supreme Chancellor has secretly dispatched two Jedi Moderators, the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy, to settle the conflict ....."
