| | | WAB Calendar 2007 Discussions (closed) i understand that this forum needs funds to keep the site running and i have a suggestion ,i own and operate a calender making company and i have 2 suggestions
a we have a competition to find 12 shots that we all like and i can organise the printing of the same and my company would bind these calenders for free (i cant get the printing done for free unfortunately) and members or others could purchase these .
or b if members want a very personal calender and if they send me up to 14 a4 sheets i can convert this to a calender . how this would work is they send me the sheets with a fee and i bind this up post it back to the member deduct postage from the fee and send the balance without any further deductions to wab
if these are possible ideas lets discuss and get a fee fixed or otherwise and i can start to run with it .

| | | Re: fund raising Good afternoon MALC - What a lovely suggestion and I for one would certainly be up for the 12 shots idea (with the wonderful quality of photography and divertsity of subjects it could prove very popular). Thanks.

| | | Re: fund raising sounds like a great idea malcx, you should deffo mention it to studh and also to boddie as he was talking about calendars not that long ago.
If you havent already pehaps you should join the marketing group - then you can join in the discussions about this kind of thing in the limited access forum for this group.
nice one

What a good idea, something that could been done every year,
If the people at the top agree. Plan A looks good to me
I'll certainly buy a couple.

| | | Re: fund raising I think this is a good idea but surely we need people to submit images for this. Can this not be instigated?
Malc, can we not get some prices so as to know what the likely cost of this exercise is to be for say maybe 100 - 1,000 pieces?
Then we can put the question out as to who would seriously be interested in purchasing a calender with WAB members images featured on it.
Cheers

| | | Re: fund raising I also think option 'a' is a good idea. We would need to have some idea of costs. Also, how would we select the 12 photos? Presumably we would have to submit shots which would then be voted on? The only problem being that StuDH said the old photo competitions, which also entailed voting, proved to be a lot of hard work for him. Maybe though the benefits of a calendar would be sufficient to make this worthwhile?

| | | Re: fund raising Is this a hidden thread as it keeps disappearing of the list on the right of the screen?
I would suggest that the selection of photos is as follows.
A selection of the TOP RATED from the gallery, provided of course that the file sizes are large enough.
This makes most sense to me |

This makes most sense to me | I suspect that the file sizes aint going to be, although malcx is the man to confirm this. In my experience calendars need decent dimessions at 300dpi. However this is not going to be a problem as I am sure all our top photographers could supply hi res versions of their pics on CD or email if necessary.
As far as selecting pics goes it isnt as simple as selecting the 12 best, as they would also need to be appropriate to the season. Also for calendars pics generally need to all be roughly the same shape and dimensions
I would suggest that the best way of voting on them would be for someone to sort out a selection and post them on sticky thread in the treehouse where everyone can see them, then people can just post to say which 12 they prefer - after a decent interval, say a couple of weeks we simply pic the 12 most popular (well 13 actually as one is needed for the cover) and ask the photographers concerned to send their high res images either to stu
or directly to mal.
(edit: or we bosh the selection into a new gallery specifically for this then people vote using the rating system)
as far as which lucky someone gets to get the ball rolling I'm quite happy to do this - perticularly as i have a decent selection sorted out already as I have been looking at calendars since the t shirts thread back in may.... however before I jump the gun again maybe we need to hear from stu ?

Do you think you could give us some idea of prices before we confirm definite numbers as we will need this a) so that we know if wab can afford the upfront cost, and b) so that members can see if they want to pay the price when expressing interest.
I understand that numbers effect the price so perhaps you could give us unit price estimates based on a 100 run, a 500 run and a 1000 run ?

i will still bind up any members calenders for free as per my original offer even if we go the pre printed rout i suggest a minimum of £2 for a private calender this would probably give £1.50 to wab |

Matt | He will probably need to run it past the trustees but I wouldnt imagine that it will present too many problems as stu gave the nod to calendars in principle way back in may when we started talking about merchandising generally. I sent Stu a heads up PM to this thread, also asking him to move it to the treehouse, or marketing group (for some reason it is in technical issues at pres) a while back but so far nada - may be he's away I presume that even the stu meister has a life outside of wab

thanks | Dont worry about it for now Malcx, stu can move the thread easy enough.
For future info- threads like this should either be started in the treehouse , which is for non wildlife discussions, or in the marketing group forum which as the name suggests is for all matters to do with marketing, fundraising, publicity etc. The only proviso to this is that only marketing group members can view/post in the marketing forum so if you want to float ideas with all of wab the treehouse is probably youtr best bet.
The Wildabout britain website area is usualy used for posts relating directly to the website, such as technical issues, ideas for new pages, etc
Hiwever like i said dont worry about it too much as it is the work of a moment for Stu or another Moderator to move the thread to one of the locations mentioned above.
