| | | Re: fund raising Sorry it's taken me so long to pick up on this one, I've been busy starting a new job and I've also had monster toothache for the past 6 days (dentist on holiday, antiobios din't kick in for 5 days etc..but that's another story).
I think it would be great to have a calender, as long as we can sell plenty of them. If we can crunch some numbers and get some idea of the quality, designs, specs etc, then I think it would be a goer.
Just bouncing a few ideas - maybe we could have 1 big pic for each month, but 28, 30, 31 thumbnail pics on the back of each month too? We could maybe even sell off days for members to put their own pic on a particular day of the year? I've no idea how to put together a calendar, so I don't know if this would work, but it could be a way of paying the costs of production.

| | | Re: fund raising These are my early thoughts for pics for the calendar - just trying to stimulate debate and discussion so feel free to disagree , suggest different ones or whatever
NB: you may notice that i have duplicated them all into the forum galleries - this is cos it might make sense to have them all together for easy access - (ideally we need a seperate gallery but i think only stu can set that up.)
Edit ive just realised that in duplicating them i have made it look like they are all mine, which they aint doh
from the top they are
Gill catton, Wolf Hill, Rchlew, Klewis, Pxl8, words, pxl8 again, bushcraft, pxl8 yet again (what can I say the guys talented), Oy, and Wolfhill again
Ive also just realised that i cant count , there are only 11 here , double doh

Ideally we would invite submissions to a separate gallery and then vote, but I don't know how complicated this would be to administer.

Matt | We dont have oodles of time if we want to get this together and marketted for xmas, ideally we would want to go to press no later than september.
I hear what your saying about no one wanting to be critical publicly but what about members saying "why not try this one" their own or some body elses then when we have about 20 on the thread stu can bung em into a gallery for voting if he wants , or just make an executive decision if thats easier.
one thing for everyone to bear in mind is that we need a range of seasonal shots , tis no good having 12 excellent summer shots for instance cos that will look a bit funny on january.

| | | Re: fund raising I think it is easier if we were to set up a dedicated thread and invite members to submit pictures for consideration. We dont even know if the ones chosen are still available as uncompressed images.
Then, when we have a load to choose from, a panel makes a decision. Unpublicly.
What do you think? |

do we need stu's okay to set up the thread or shall we just go for it ? (if its the latter can you just go for it please, as the only thing i am going for is ma bed)

| | | Re: fund raising I will chat with Stuart tomorrow and sort something tomorrow night then we will throw it open to those who wish to have images considered and can provide them in the correct sizes, formats etc. Suggest we lay down some rules like images only for the first two weeks or so, or have another thread for discussions.
How does that sound? |

| | | Re: fund raising Like I said it gets my vote (see pm also) we probably also need to give a brief as to what sort of thing we are looking for as it isnt as easy as 12 good shots - they need to tie into the seasons and reflect the diversity of what wab is about.
I'll email you the calendar brief my employers used when doing ours last year so that you and stu can use this as a starting point
now i'm off for some kip - and snack not had tea yet

| | | Re: fund raising sounds good to me also. In an ideal world the images would stem from 12 different WAB members to be as representative as possible, but things may not be that simple since, as you point out Pete, the images need to represent the seasons to some extent. (Actually we probably need 13 images don't we - an extra one for the cover?)
thanks for your efforts so far on this Pete (and Boddie).

Cheers. Jules

Thats fantastic Kev. Thanks
I think this is the way we should play this.
Otherwise members will choose pictures from other users who may not have the original high res image any more. Once we have expressed permissions from the owners, and confirmation that high res images are available, we can proceed so I would ask for more offers like that from Kev.
Thanks Guys |

It goes without saying that I am also happy for any of my images to be used (and have high res versions of all of them).

Thats great.
If any of you have any particular faves you feel should be considered that will save us looking through so many. I think there are hundreds of beaut images from the three of you that have permissed (is that a word? - it is now) already |

| | | Re: WAB Calendar. should each of us select our favourite (or most suitable) 2 or 3 own shots? The benefit of selecting our own shots is that we will know if any were heavily cropped - these may look fine on the web but would not look so good printed. Most of mine aren't heavily cropped but a few are. (Obviously this doesn't apply to Kev Lewis or, I suspect, pxl8 )

(but Matt can I vote for your tawny mining bee?).
I mean I quite the chalkhill blue ones although maybe I wouldn't crop them so closely next time and then maybe they aren't the best ones........ | |
