| | | New 'Wild Places' Facility We're currently working on a 'Wild Places' facility that will create a database of maps, images and descriptions of places to go in wildlife throughout the British Isles. It's another monster project that's taking a lot of work to create behind the scenes, but we've got some bits up and running for an initial release.
All we need now are lots of details about lots of wild places
So when you're next out and about, please take some pics of your local sites, make a note of the facilities for disabled access, information centre, toilets, car park, shops, restaurant, picnic area, dog access, cycle paths etc, and then add the details in the 'Wild Places' section by clicking here
Thanks

If anyone has any ideas on extra fields that we could add to the form, then please let me know.

| | | Re: New 'Wild Places' Facility If you have somewhere in mind as a Wild Place Kymba, and know that it has facilities for children and offers guided walks, please add it to the Wild Places section. The places already listed have been added by various members, as is encouraged on this site and when they see your post, it may prompt them to add this information if appropriate.
Cheers.

| | | Re: New 'Wild Places' Facility I know very few wild places that aren't suitable for most children!
I've looked at this section and would like to add things but am partly overawed by what needs to be done - or perhaps (as usual) I've missed some easy technology.
When I've got over this virus (personal, not computer) I shall have another look and, hopefully, be able to contribute something.
One of the things which perplexes me is that many of the places that I would recommend are in the White Peak - some of them already have already been noted (Deepdale, Monsal Head) but I would enter Deepdale-Monsal Dale as one site and would add on Miller Dale, perhaps Wyedale, Monkdale &c &c .... Yes, it would be silly to write these all up as one 'place' but they are all linked (by the River Wye and its tributaries) but would there be any way of grouping them? Perhaps clusters of places that are withing walking distance of each other?
Probably asking the impossible but it might be useful if you could pick out such clusters if planning a walking weekend (week) and also allow people to select 'hard' from 'easy' access sites? Quote:

Or perhaps we both are!
I think we both need more 'help and advice'!
Incidentally, I'd be interested to know what you mean about 'good for children' (in your first mail). Easy to walk? Not likely to break limbs or neck? Things other than nature to do? Explanations at a simple level? Teachers facilities?
This is personal interest because I recall conversations with other parents about places that are "good for kids" and find widely different views on what this means. Perhaps the subject for another thread - or has there been one already? |

| | | Re: New 'Wild Places' Facility I think Stu is working on this section at present - so you may have to wait a day or two before you can add your Wild Place. Keep trying.
