Your help please

I have discovered a ringed bird in my garden in Pegwell Ramsgate Kent. It had been half eaten by a cat, so there was no markings to determin the exact make/model but by the shape of the beak it seems to be some sort of finch.

The bird was ringed with the number 36B A05 Z5S. Is it possible that I can find the organization/person that this bird was ringed by? As I could perhaps advise them that unfortunatley the bird is no longer and for my own curiosity discover some of the history of the bird.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Frank.

Re: Your help please

Hi Frank and welcome to the forum.

I think you want to be contacting the BTO. There should be a link on there for reporting ringed birds.

http://www.bto.org/

Hope this helps

What do you mean the bto aren't interested, or other organisations?

Re: Your help please

In the past, I have always had a full report from the BTO about rings I have found - but maybe it has changed?

Thanks for the info. I have registered the ring number on the BTO site & I am awaiting their reply.

I had a dead racing pigeon in the back garden once (looked like a bird of prey had eaten it) and I found a leg with a ring attached. I reported it to The Royal Pigeon Racing Association via email and they contacted me almost straight away to say thank you and they would let the owner know.
