2000 Images+

We've passed the 2000 pictures milestone in the gallery, so for everyone who has helped out, by either submitting photographs or naming them, take a bow and a pat on the back.

We get emails every day from all over the world from people saying how fantastic the gallery is looking and asking for tips on taking similar pictures. As a result, we're currently working on some 'how to...' photograph guides that will go in the new magazine section of the site. So if you fancy getting involved then just drop us a line.

We've also still got lots of photos to identify so if you'd like to help out in that department then please post the relevant info in the message box under each photo or alternatively you can send me a PM and we'll see about arranging for you to be able to edit the titles/descriptions directly.

Thanks again and keep 'em coming

Stuart

For all pictures that have yet to be named we're adding 'img' to the title, so if you've got a spare moment, search for img in the gallery and it'll list the pictures that need naming.

Thanks

Stuart

I'm just the same with naming plants and flowers, I've seen some beautiful ones this year that I've never seen before but haven't got a clue what they are, I just don't seem to have the time to look them up!

Just click on the 'Add Your Own Pictures' link on the frontpage of the gallery and follow the online instructions.

What a treat to see so many photographs on the gallery - many different techniques and equipment used, but all fascinating, and of course you feel as though you almost know the contributor personally. I can assure everyone who submits their work that I get as much pleasure looking at the pics as they probably do taking them. Thanks.

By the way, have you seen the reference section of Wild About Britain yet? I know StuartDH has been working on it and it's growing and improving daily - hope you like it.

I've now added the 'Reference' link to every section of the site, so please let me know if you don't find it at the top of any pages on wildaboutbritain.co.uk

The reference section is a completely new build of our old content management system, enabling visitors to write/edit pages so that everyone can get involved in adding content.

Now that most of the coding and setup has finished, I'm currently putting together the content that we have so far into various sections and will be loading up many of the new pages during the next week or so.

Stuart

I did PM a mod regarding one of my photos of a Guillemot. Unfortunately the title has been changed to Brunnich's Guillemot which it clearly is not. It will be very misleading to anyone looking at that photo as they will get the wrong idea of what a Brunnisch's would look like (not that we ever get them in this country). I have even put a reply to my own photo to try and explain it.

Is there a way I can edit the photo title.

BTW why doesn't anyone put comments to the photos if they enjoy them so much?

I did a search on img and turned up quite a few photos of yours.

I have ID'd a few birds, and have PM'd you with thieir ID's, but all those other's (apart from two - img & img_3168 which are Wheatears) are (I suspect) from a wildfowl collection such as Slimbridge.

None of them appear to be native to Britain and unless there are members here with field guides that cover the world will be hard to actually put an ID to.

Hi John,

Thanks for sending me the info on some of the birds in the gallery. There are still literally hundreds of photos that I've yet to get around to changing the titles on (not enough hours in the day ), so it would definitely be a great help if you could edit some of the details with us. I've just changed your access permissions to the gallery so that you should now be able to edit the descriptions of the photos directly and I've also sent you a PM with some info on the new links that'll appear when you next login to the gallery.

You're right, many of the wildfowl pictures were taken at a public park in Cumbria and so the ones that aren't commmonly found around the UK should really be moved to the 'Foreign Nationals' section of the gallery. As a result, we'll probably keep the Mandarins etc in the bird section, but some of the rarer imports can be moved.

Thanks again for your help
