Question Just wondering

Hi, I was just wondering what happened to the thread I answered on the mammal forum from topvet in Italy about respiratory problems in Hedgehogs.

Re: Just wondering

it was removed while the mods had a look to see if it's suitable to post info about med supplies. It should be OK, but the post looks a lot like the massive amount of bird flu spam that we used to get, where someone asks a question, then gets a colleague to join in to answer it with their own cure. We've just done another two this morning on environment remediation and hazardous waste.

Re: Just wondering

Hi Stu, I understand what your saying about my post, it seems to have dissapeared altogether! It's not anything to do with birds, otherwise it would have been in the bird forum not mammal My concern is I was trying to help topvet with a sick Hedgehog. What happens now.

its probably still in the quarantine board (where mods put stuff while deciding what to do with it) I guess it will either come back or it wont depending on the mod decision. In the meantime I'd suggest you send topvet a pm

Re: Just wondering

Don't you think it's a bit odd that a vet was asking the sort of questions a vet should know anyway..I must say I was bit suspicious.. Maybe Im a bit sceptical...

Re: Just wondering

Hi All,

I think you would be surprized at how many vets don't know what to do with wildlife casualties. Most vets just don't have the experience that wildlife hospitals have. We deal with 500/600 H/hogs per year so I definately thought the enquiry was genuine.

That is amazing. You take it for granted that vets would know about wildlife..

Re: Just wondering

We have fantastic support from the vets we use. All our birds go to an avian vet, as we deal with about 60%, it's very important to get the right treatment and advice about what will realistically mend. We have received birds from other vets in the past with some very obvious injuries that have
been missed!
Our mammal vets again are superb, they treat our Badger casualties, if a Badger comes in with serious bite wounds from fighting , to clean them up they have to be sedated then we can get a real good look at their general condition. We are so lucky to have a vet that will visit any deer casualties, he will do his utmost to fit us in with his schedule.
We do have to pay vet bills, but have arrangements with them and give us a good deal.
