There may be more, I haven't seen all images of course ...
Thought you might want to know.

Arp | There are quite a few incorrect images. I have still to look through my 2,000+.
It happened when the Gallery was updated. Some Users have ended up with incorrect images.
The only way we can tell is if the user notices it. At the end of the day the only answer is for them to be reloaded. |

Thanks for the info. What is the best way to handle this? Just a comment on the image, or "Report" the image as well?
- Are the images currently showing even by the same author?
- Is there any point in providing new IDs for the "wrong" images?
- Is it of any use to try and find the "old" image in the archive (could a mod then correct it)?

Arp | I'm not at all sure. I've just looked at some early pages of mine and I can see quite a few foreign images..Not a happy situation. On the ones I've found incorrect the real image appears to be gone, with a duplicate of the real owners image in its place. Obviously this can't be true for all the errors.
I think some more thought needs to be put into this to try and sort it out.
I've raised the issue with Stu, I think a bit of background head scratching is called for. |

| | | Re: Image shuffle in gallery?! The only thing we can do is delete them. Unfortunately, there was a bug in the old gallery software that was only discovered when we moved to the new software. Uploading replacement pics doesn't fix it as the images still refer back to the wrong image. It's basically down to a problem with images having a common filename like the above ladybird.jpg and beetle.jpg - it doesn't matter what the image looks like or what title is given to it, all refer to a single file.
The new software gets around the issue by giving unique filenames to all upload so they can't get mixed up, but any we find from the old gallery need to be deleted so if you can report any you find via the icon I'll sort them out

| | | Re: Image shuffle in gallery?! It looks like a cross-linking problem - there are (at least) two database entries pointing to the same image. Both of these are my images and both still appear in my gallery with correct (I hope!) titles...
So Jezlee and Speckled Wood must be missing their original photos and seeing mine instead - sorry guys!
Is it possible to delete the incorrect database entries without deleting the image itself? If so this might be the simplest way to fix the problem but it would mean that Jezlee and Speckled Wood would have to reload their "lost" images - sorry again guys!
Dave P.
STOP PRESS - since posting the above the seven spot ladybird is no longer in my gallery and the link above gives a "Photo not found in the database" error. Also the thumbnail has disappeared for the flea beetle.
And now the flea beetle has gone too!
Tell you what - I'll reload them!

| | | Re: Image shuffle in gallery?! Bit of an oops that (meaning Daves pics vanishing just now)
One line of action that could be taken is to search the archive for a copy of the original image as these supposedly remain in the archive if they were ever used there... So, searching with the user name and maybe a keyword or two in the archive may still bring back the originals????
I'll try that on the next one I run into.

| | | Re: Image shuffle in gallery?! Okay, the archive has some issues too.
Example:
I found the comments with this image strange:
so I tracked it back to belonging to this thread: insect?
Which discusses this series of images from the gallery: http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/ga.../4/insect1.jpg http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/ga.../4/insect2.jpg
(and not the spider in the first image)
Is that the same (or similar) issue? What to do? Comment on the current archive spider and ask the user if it is his/hers? | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
