Random Gallery Photos

I'll tell you what I miss......and that's the random gallery photos that used to run along the top of the forum page and changed everytime you came back to the main forum.

I seem to miss a lot of the photos now, old and new, as I still can't quite get in the swing of the new gallery. (sad but true)
When the photos were there it was always a good way of seeing something I may have otherwise missed.

Is there any chance of getting them back at all?

Suzanne

Re: Random Gallery Photos

I hadn't thought about that Suzanne - but now that you mention it - yeah - I really miss them too!
I was ALWAYS dipping in and out of those!

Re: Random Gallery Photos

Err...... arn't they now underneath the main gallery - if you scroll down the Gallery page don't they appear for you?

Pauline

PS Btw I've been on here since Aug 06 (I think) and I've only just realised that clicking on pics enlarges them a bit - its a right wow factor to see stuff even bigger and clearer! Pxx

Morning Pauline. Up nice and early! (We are off hunting Short-Eared Owls today!).
I'm talking about (as is Monkster I think) the three random images that appeared at the top of the forum page (without having to go into the gallery) that refreshed (and changed) every time one pressed f5.
Those images were very useful...

Re: Random Gallery Photos

Hi Doug and Pauline
Thanks for your replies.

Yes, it was the Random Images on the Forum page I was on about, not the one in the gallery itself. Although it looks like that's where it has gone now and I realise that it has a lot more photos than before.

If you look on Wildlife and Environment Forum website and go on the forum page it will remind you of what I mean.
It seems a bit of a shame that it's no longer here as it also brightened up the forum page and was a nice touch for getting people to the gallery.

Anyway, looks like it is just me and you that miss it then Doug!!

Suzanne

I always thought it was a great way of seeing images that were posted before I joined. Something would catch my eye and I would click to get a better look and see who had taken it and reply months if not a year or more after it was posted. It also bought to attention images in galleries I don't frequent on a regular basis. I do exactly the same on WAW now.

I would like to see it reinstated too .

Re: Random Gallery Photos

I've asked Stu to see if it's possible to do it with this version of the Gallery software.

Re: Random Gallery Photos

You can add me to the list of people who would like that feature back if it is possible. I used to enjoy browsing the forum and then seeing an image at the top of the page and thinking "wow, that's interesting" and then going to have a closer look at it. It might be something that I had no plans of looking at but it would catch my interest and I might leave a comment to say how good I thought it was. I wonder if that is part of the reason why there aren't so many comments on people's photographs now and if other people did the same.

Re: Random Gallery Photos

I was just wondering if there is any update on the possibility of reinstating the 'random gallery' yet?
I've just been on Wildabouttheworld and I think it is such an asset there.
Plus photos are uploaded at such a pace on here now it's easy to miss something that would normally catch your eye.
Thanks
Suzanne

It sure is - I use Vbulletin and the same gallery on my sea angling web. You can choose between random or newest pictures.

Re: Random Gallery Photos

It is possible and I tried it last week, but it through a wobbly (maybe because I'm using a separate database for the forum and gallery, or it's conflicting with the cmps) so I put it all back again and have left it since then. I've got too much to do developing other parts of the site at the moment, but it's on the to do list

Stu
