Is the Archive "Report Image" link working

I appreciate that things must be pretty hectic with sorting out the new Gallery and Archive etc, so have been a bit reluctant to create more work by raising problems...

I have unsuccessfully tried (at least 5 times) to used the Report Photo link in the new "Unidentified Fungi" Archive to request renaming and transfer of images to the Main Gallery . On two occasions it was to request the transfer of an image that already has a title showing the correct common name and scientific classification (so is in the Archive by mistake).

To make the request I have clicked on the little red icon in the "Photo Details" section, just below the image. I have always included the common and scientific names in the required sequence and format - and only made the request when identification has been confidently confirmed in the Fungi Forum. In other words I am using the same approach that I have used successfully many times with the old Galley.

So, is there a problem with the link or is there a backlog (understandably) or am I just not making the request in the right way?

This is not in any way a gripe as I REALLY do appreciate the hard work all you moderators put in. Just drawing your attention to a problem I've been experiencing .

Bruce

The reported image doesn't work as we would like. Moderators can't currently see what needs to be done, so it's a bit difficult to do them.
Can I suggest you send me a PM with links to all the images you want moving/renaming, with the correct info, and I'll do it manually. The images will show as a new upload, but it's the only way I can do it.

Re: Is the Archive "Report Image" link working

I've found about 20 emails that hadn't been forwarded to my PC and I've been through and renamed them, but we're also going to change the reporting system for the archive. We only plan on using the report image to rename pics or report problem images, but not for moving images. If a photo has been renamed, the member who posted the pic will need to re-upload to main gallery and make sure it includes the correct title, keywords, description etc

Wont this lead to a lot of duplication and take up valuable space?

That was my concern, but Stu says it shouldn't be a problem. The new server can more than handle it apparently.

Re: Is the Archive "Report Image" link working

Graham,

Where the objective is to rename and transfer an image from the Archive to the main Gallery, it occured to me that as the Archive is not searchable the following procedure might be simpler:

The member re-uploads the image to the main Gallery with all required subject identification etc.

Once satisfied that the image has been accepted by the editor/moderator the member requests that the original image in the Archive be deleted (rather than renamed) supplying links etc.

This way the image is fully searchable and only exists once within WAB.

Any thoughts?
Bruce

even the act of deleting the images in the Archive is surprisingly time consuming. Plus these images may have been included in 'please identify my mushroom' type threads so deleting them would make such threads unreadable.

Our preferred solution at the moment is for the member to re-upload the image to the main gallery, with all titles and keywords included, and to leave the original image where it is in the Archive.

Matt

As well as Matts comments, one point to make clear, we've never deleted the images when they've been asked to be moved for the reason Matt gave, disturbing forum threads.
The main reason it's now more awkward than before is the new system uses a different database, the two can't see each other so we can't simply select a different gallery as we used to do before the upgrade.
That's why it's so awkward to copy them over. It's a three window job at best, and takes far longer to do. In effect we have to re-load them, hence we came to the conclusion the user is in a much better position to do that. There's always the danger we may use the wrong user name, something I did only yesterday.

Matt and Graham - Fully understand the points you make - I hadn't considered the forum link implications.

So, if we are re-uploading to the main Gallery there doesn't seem to be any point in renaming the original image as the Archive is not searchable (I think that's what you're suggesting). Will save save a lot of time I would think.

Yes, you've got it! No need to re-name the old. Just use the info and reload to the new gallery.
