Hi Graham

I don't think I have Home Edition. I will check when I get home.

Import you video and place it in the storyboard. Go to the top pudown file menue and click on save movie
Then click next and it will ask you where you want to put it . I would put descktop (ths saves a hunt after) then click next and it should say save movie (at this point don't worry about the title leave it as Movie)
Under that should be a very tiney message saying 'Show more 'if not click next and it will show there on the next page. Any how when you see the message 'Show more' click on it and an info box will appear, ckick the arrow and a drop down menue will show.
Move down the menue until you see 'High quality small movie' this will reduce your movi and will keep it's quality. It wont be full screen though but it will be less than a mbg. Try this out.
Hi Beryl

I have downloaded Windows Moviemaker but unfortunately it doesn't support this type of file. The file extension is .mov

Miy camera uses Quick time and I use arcsoft Video Impressions to convert it to AVI

I think Arcsoft Video Impressions suports most files . It also can extract music from the video and still leave the video in tact. the only thing is it leaves a fat file that is why you need movie maker to reduce it

I have all the arcsoft progs.
I will check if it suports Mov I have a feleling it does. Will get back to you on this

I capture my camcorder videos onto moviemaker or arcsoft wideo impressions through a fire wire. Moviemaker can also split the movie into small files which doesn't lose any of the cideo when put together but does help in editing.
You can then make a reduced movie file which is what we need or an AVI/Pal movie for DVD

But you may need to cionvert your file to AVI first.

Hi Beryl

Thanks for that. Where do I get Arcsoft Video Impressions from. Is it downloadable. Do I have to buy it. If I do get it is it easy easy enough to use.

I am no techie, as you know, so I will need it explaining, in dummy terms, on how to go about it.

It is down loadable but you would have to buy it and the tryal is only 15 days
I can send all the instructions as I have them all ready to print as screen shots like a sort of step by step pictures of each screen. Which you could then pass on to other people who have never used it.

The prog is about $29 so not a lot in English.

Hang fire a bit Beryl. I have had an offer via a PM on a program that should do the job. As soon as I receive it I will try it out and let you know how it handles my movies.

Thanks for your help Beryl. Hopefully the end product, whether it is your programme or the one being sent to me that I use, will be movies that I can place into the gallery.

If I can do it I will certainly try and take a few movies whilst in Norfolk for two weeks.

John

You may have problems importing MOV format into Windows Movie Maker, but there's a good tool that will convert MOV to AVI, and you can then import the AVI file into Moviemaker. Easier than it sounds.

The converter can be got for free here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp4cam2avi/

PM me if you want a walkthrough how to do it.

I have just downloaded it.I am up late posting because I have been playing about with it.It is an excellent program and the conversion was perfect.I have tried other programs but always ended up with the avi being blocky this is so clear.I recommend it.
It is a zip file and does not install.I unzipped it and put it in a folder in my videos folder then sent the exe file to the desktop and ran it from there.Brilliant thank you.I had MOV. files of my precious granddaughter which I have converted and you can put several together to make a larger movie. It is great Thank you

Thanks for the link Words. I clicked into it and clicked on Download and there appears to be two options. mp4cam2avi and mp4cam2avi_src. Which one do I download, or doesn't it matter which one I use.

Re: Adding Video to the Gallery

You just need mp4cam2avi. (The other one includes the 'source code' which programmers find useful).

Re: Adding Video to the Gallery

I have placed my first Movie in the Sounds Forum as I didn't know where to put it. It is of a Baird's Sandpiper. They are not of high quality, as they are only taken using a CP4500 through a scope, but at these distances you wouldn't get it using an ordinary camcorder anyway.

See what you think and if you think it's ok I will convert some more and upload them the site.

Can you let me know which should be the correct section they should be going in please.

John

Re: Adding Video to the Gallery

I had a look at your movie and I thought it was very good. I uploaded one, just s tiny one but it seams that the space isn't quite ready yet so the uploading hads been held back for now. I think it's a nice idea

Hi Beryl

It seems like I jumped the gun in uploading that movie. I misread the signs and thought that these movies could be uploaded. I was wrong and uploading such movies has now been suspended until such time that Stuart is happy with them.

Re: Adding Video to the Gallery

Yes I think they will need to be up to 1mgb if the space is to survive. The one I uploaded is 11 seconds long but under 600kb.
I still think it's nice to see little moviesthat people make.
That little egret movie was all done on a digital camers not a camcorder that is why it's a bit unsteady. I have a section of it that is under a mgb where he takes off and lands in the water. May put that up when the space is sorted out
