Quick reply Box

Dont know if i have missed it,, if I have I apologise,, But I have just noticed a Quick reply Box under a normal Post reply.. can someone tell me what it does different????? not sure when we should use it ..

Its always been there Kymba it is greyed out until you click post reply so you just used it

Yes, it does seem rather redundant - you have to click on one of the buttons that you would have clicked anyway to reply ..... probably comes with the setup?

You still have to type same words and click send... both take about same time!!

it is quicker because you can click on the quick reply icon on any post to go staight to it rather than having to scroll to the bottom of the page - also it doesnt open a new window.

by the way you can add smileyes using quick reply but you have to type them in rather than clicking on the icons , like that

But if you do that you miss out on reading the rest of the Posts and then you will have to do several posts instead of reading them all and clicking on reply.. See I aint so daft

The quick reply box is only fractionally quicker as it is set up here, but it can be enabled so that you type straight into it without having to click on the quick reply icon making it quicker again, this is slightly heavier on forum resources I believe.

You're right though, it really doesn't save a serious amount of time, having said that, there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth when I disabled it on another forum temporarily.

It should be quicker (especially for dialup users) because it doesn't need the page to be reloaded with the reply box page when you hit the 'post reply' button. The reason why it's greyed out is because it also has the advantage of being able to link together posts with replies in tiers, so it's grey until you click the relevant 'quick reply button'. For example, if you click on the second post on this thread and quick reply to it, the reply will be linked to the second post. Change to threaded view in the 'display modes' option at the top of the thread to see what I mean.
