New Diary Facility

We've just opened a new area to the site, where you can wrtie your own wildlife or environment-related diary.

So, if you're a member of a conservation group, club or society, or you just fancy keeping a diary on your trips out photographing wildlife, bird watching, treking, watching a local family of Badgers/foxes etc, then this is the place to do it.

To start, just click on the 'New Diary' button on this page, fill in the info and from then on you'll should see a 'New Entry' button that you can use to add each new day/event.

It works almost the same as the forum, except that other members can't reply to your postings in the usual way. They can add comments to your diary entries and ask questions etc, but, because it's your diary, you have more control over the diary, the entries and the discussion.

So get tapping on that keyboard and let's here all about the wild things you get up to.

P.S. If you fancy writing a diary for your local club, group etc and would like an easy-to-remember web address so the club members can easily find your diary, just contact me and we can setup something like: yourclub.wildaboutbritain.co.uk

I agree Simon... an excellent idea

StuDH.. Is it possible to also add photos to your diary entries?
I am still unable to post my photos in the gallery, so I'm wondering if I can post pictures straight into the diary pages?
I'm on dial up which makes my connection considerably slower, and my machine groans every time I try

Thanks for adding this facility Stu, I'm going to enjoy using it!!!

Hi Jo,

The only way to add images to your diary at the moment is to include them via a URL, so they need to be uploaded to somewhere on the net already.

We'll hopefully be able to add attachments as a feature at a later date, but it could take a while to get it sorted out.

I've actually managed to upload a couple of pictures in the gallery today!!!!!!!
Hopefully my computer will keep going a while longer so I can put up some more!

Tragus, if it is any help we could upload any of your images already on the gallery into your diary pages. Just let us know what you want and we will try to oblige.

I have tried already with some of the photo's, but so far only the Red Kite one showed up in full rather than the link which the others are displaying. I must have done something wrong with the others, but I can't think what now!!

Hi Jo,

I've just had a look and it appears as though some are links because you've included the ....html URL of the image's page in the gallery. To make the pic appear in your post, you need to copy the file name of the image instead. In Firefox right click on the image and choose 'copy link location', in IE right-click and you'll find the info in properties and it should end in something like ...jpg.

Once you got the code, click on the image button in your diary post and add it in there. That should hopefully fix it.
