| | | Member Survey I'd like to add a member survey to the site that we could use to find out a bit more about everyone's interest, and also use it to give new visitors an insight to the type of people they'll meet here.
This should hopefully help to explode a few myths and preconceptions about the members. For example, that not everyone on the site is against hunting, or we're all experts, wildlife geeks, pro-photographers, tree huggers, work in the countryside and so on. Of course, we know we're a great mix, but I think it would be great to see the results from a survey.
Ideally, the results will enable new visitors to see that they're just they same as us - a variety of interests, various levels of knowledge, many newbies etc.
As a result, it would be a big help if you could submit your ideas on possible multiple-choice questions that we could include in the survey.
Cheers

| | | Re: Outdoor Activity Interests Q 4. How about an age range question to show that we are not all wrinklies. A. Perhaps something like:
Under 18
18 - 30
30 - 60
Over 60
It might also be an idea to show gender. May stop females thinking it is not for them.

| | | Re: Job Questions Yep, that would be a good one to add. Basically, the end result will show graphs and pie charts of the stats that have been collected from the survey. All the answers to the questions will be anonymous, so you can even lie about your age |

A lot of people use the internet anonymously or people aren't always, shall we say, truthful on forums.
Some people will also feel uncomfortable giving out information about their age and/or profession, and even their location for reasons that aren't the business of anyone but themselves.
I'm sure the WAB survey will receive a lot of input, but let's not forget, this is a public forum, which can be read by anyone.

| | | Re: Job Questions Hi Helen,
Don't worry, it's not going to be the Doomsday Book, it won't be compulsary, and we won't need everyone to tells us how many cows and chickens they've got - it's just purely going to be a graphical representation of members on the site. All anonymous and just for the purpose of giving new visitors some idea of huge variety of knowledge, interests and opinions of people that use the forums.
There are many new visitors that feel initimidated by forums because they feel they won't fit in with the crowd. They often think that they don't have sufficient knowledge about the subjects, everyone will disagree with their point of view, that all the people on the site are youngters or old fogies, or academics, or geeks etc.
The survey will just help to explode the myths. There are many forums where all of the above are true, but Wild About Britain is different and we'd just like to show it with some basic facts and figures.

Go on then, you can have the East of England, and we'll split the midlands between west and east as well, but that's it, no more. |

I am hoping that it will not happen in my lifetime. I don't want the hassle of moving again

South West | I have also got a problem. Is West Berkshire in the South East or the South West? I've never been able to figure it out.

Endquote
Another preconceived idea - that all of East Anglia is flat! I'll have you know my house is all of 70 feet above sea level.
