Jenny - There's no need to feel like that, I can assure you that there is no reason why anyone shouldn't post images because they think they don't think they are good enough.
Here on WAB everyones photographs are welcomed and enjoyed by all that's what makes this site so much better than most others, so post as many as you like, I look forward to seeing them.

Re: Gallery FAQs

the upload your own images is quite off putting and seems complicated, then you may have to resize an image, then the submit button has disappeared to the bottom of the page
I had a couple of colleagues go through the motions, and they called in a young lady wot does IT, they say it is too complicated for your average person with only a passing interest in WAB to bother with, for the sake of a photo they thought you would not be very interested in anyway
Hmmmm,auto-sizing,pick a picture put it in this little window answer 3-4 questions. send.
Could it be done, not everyone sits comfortably with technology, especially some of the over 21s

Re: Gallery FAQs

I agree, it's something that we'd really like to streamline a bit, but there is a 'quick upload' for single images at the bottom of each category's homepage - like this one:

http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/ga...-7-albums.html

The image resize is there because we were getting a lot of uploads that were 2MB per image X10 for all the uploads and getting a few fustrated posters that were saying the uploads were taking too long...it also left us with very big images on the system. I don't know if there's an easier way around it, but resizing before uploading seems to be the best option for now, as auto-sizing would still need the big files to be uploaded first.

Re: What do members think about the gallery?

One would assume that most people uploading photos will want to improve their understanding of photography - and resizing etc is a part of that.

I did a small tutorial PDF document on basic resizing and resampling using the free program Irfanview. I could tweak it to suit WAB if anyone thinks it would be usefull.

Re: What do members think about the gallery?

Sounds good to me Oy. We could add it to the reference section and point new visitors over there for extra help with uploading image and general photo tips.

Re: What do members think about the gallery?

Hello Oy,my point was there are people out there who enjoy the site and have in all probability an image or two they feel may be, or definitely is, good enough to show they are not interested in the hobby or profession of photography they just take pictures and would share if it does not take a degree to upload them

How I agree with you nightshade. OK I have posted a large number of images but that was because there were no examples in the Gallery at the time. They certainly are nothing to write home about, indeed there are many better examples now. I almost wish there were a way that I could delete a lot of what I posted at the start. My hobby is wildlife not photography. I have in the past only taken the occasional image of something that I found interesting or wanted to ID.
