| | | Recent pond dip photos There is plenty of activity in the ponds at Wat Tyler Country park at the mo.
Wednesday there was still thick ice on the ponds below a cruel layer of water covering the fact, which meant I got a nasty shock trying to put the net in the water!
Still in the one gap I could find in a ditch I found a Dytiscus larva
yesterday I fished out some nice lesser water boatman.
And this Caddisfly Larvae
Not my best pics, but Im a bit rusty! |

| | | Re: Recent pond dip photos Nice shots Neil. We had to break through the ice to pond-dip but it was surprising what was around. We caught about a dozen damselfly nymphs, lesser water boatman, saucer-bugs, snails and beetle larvae.

We did a pond dip last week at college. And took some of the stuff into the lab to put under the microscope. We had two caddishfly larvae. Fascinating to watch. One was having a chew on the other.
We also found lesser and greater waterboatman. Some sort of freshwater mussel, snail, smooth newts, and young newts. All sorts. Quite a good load since it was mid-january. |

| | | Re: Recent pond dip photos Good stuff! Especially the Dytiscus - I want another crack at them. Didn't do too bad with the ones at Leighton Moss but I can improve, I'm sure.
We must sort out a dip at Rainham with Jules!
