| | | Update to algae problem Hi all,
As some will know i previously posted abot a rather large algae problem i had in my garden pond looking for some advice on causes etc, 1 or 2 of which suggested seepage of nutrients into the water from the rear bank which tbh i felt at the time was not likely given that i recessed the bank behind the pond a little and thought that any soil making its way down would catch there, well it did then kept going, i decided to get into the pond and measure the soil on the bottom of the deep end, to my shock it was some 6" deep with 3" in the shallow end, so to that end i have cleared out the pond hopefully not to late in this year for the wildlife that lives and breeds here, mainly frogs and newts although dragonfly, bloodworm etc have been found.
The bank behind has been taken down further and sured up with a retaining wall to stop and more bank migration.
I have put down barley straw in the pond and it is now filling up from the gutter divert that is set up, hopefully this will sort out the problems i have had and i look forward to updating you on wildlife as it moves back in.

| | | Re: Update to algae problem Well done - and at least all this rain should help the pond fill up again quickly! Post some photos of the changes you have made, and let us know when you start getting frogs etc again. Karen |

| | | Re: Update to algae problem Just been out to check the level of water in the pond, now only 5" deep but there are 2 pairs of mating frogs and 3 other frogs, i will try to get a couple of good pics tomorrow if i can, hopefully we will get some very heavy rainfall to speed up the pond filling.
