| | | Re: New pond! Looking good, I would secure the edges a little more you could pin them down with tent pegs if you had left a little more liner then you could have buried the edges in the soil so got a neater look.
I think they might move about a bit.
I would also put a planed up basket in the corner where the pond is uneven but its great, don't forget to fill in the survey on the big spawn count.. |

| | | Re: New pond! I know it's very rough and ready, but I really just used the left over liner from the big pond. There was not enough to dig the edges into the ground. It is definitely a work in progress, and I am indeed intending to put a planted basket into that shallower end. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses over the months, and whether it ends up housing a different population of creatures to the big pond. |

| | | Re: New pond! It will indeed home a lot of wildlife I bet the newts will be in there hunting like they do in my barrel.
They newts might hide/hibernate under the liner they do in mine.
Keep the pics coming it looks like it will mature nicely. |

| | | Re: New pond! After checking with the owner of the property next door, I went over this weekend and 'liberated' some nice stones and a couple of plants out of their pond, and incorporated them into mine:
Bit of ice on there, too! No idea what the plants are, but I'm sure I'll find out when they start growing.
Sorry it's such a rubbish photo (and sideways on, for some strange reason ), hope you can see the sloping entrance/exit way made of stones between the two plants, and a couple of rocks at the other end too.
Since this pond doesnt freeze up as hard as the big pond, there was a blackbird drinking from the edge this morning . |

| | | Re: New pond! Yes! The lady from next door came over yesterday with a some frogspawn from the soon-to-be-filled-in pond:
I am happy with how this little pond is turning out! But it is in a very shady spot, and the plants are taking a long time to grow.
The frogspawn is by the rocks at the front of the pond. I put a second and third clump of spawn into the big pond. It'll be interesting to see which develops better! |

| | | Re: New pond! Your plants look like they are doing well... I like that reddish coloured one- do you know what it is, or is that one that the neighbour gave you?
I'm pleased you got some frogspawn, at last! |

| | | Re: New pond! Yes, thanks, me too! No, I don't know what the reddish plant is, all these came from the neighbor, apart from the watercress! I think the plant on the right at the front is arrowhead, but we shall see...
My big pond was a bit grey and murky, but after the recent rain it has gone back to being clear and beautiful again. Thank goodness! |

| | | Re: New pond! Oh, forgot to mention - there don't seem to be any newts in this little pond, whereas the big pond is swarming with them... Looking forward to seeing whether either pond will be graced by the toads this year. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
