| | | Re: how to clear silt? If this is also to do with the same pond, I think you'd be best waiting until you can post some photos of the pond. Otherwise, it's very difficult for people to offer advice without knowing all the details.
Also, if this is a pond you're just starting to take an interest in, it would be a good idea to take a fairly cautious approach until you have a better idea of what wildlife is using the pond already. It may or may not be beneficial to remove some silt, but it would be easy to do more harm than good by mistake. Essentially, I'd concentrate on finding out what's in the pond already before trying to make too many changes too soon. |

Stickleback | Wow, that sounds like a great start already!!! Bet you have much more than you know though - you almost certainly have snails, leeches, water boatmen, pond skaters, possibly diving beetles, and any number of tiny invertebrates. And you already have fish!!! Lucky you. You really dont need to add any more, sticklebacks will keep you very entertained. |

| | | Re: how to clear silt? You know, the more I think about this, the more I feel you already have a very diverse and healthy pond. I really dont think you should add anything more to it at this point, unless it requires more plants around the edges. And I strongly agree with what has already been said - do not try to remove any silt right now. Wait and observe what you have first. I am sure there will be wonderful wildlife photography opportunities for you.
You may well get larger animals in and around the pond, too. Mammals such as foxes, badgers and hedgehogs will use the pond to drink. Bats love to hunt over the surface of the pond. With a bit of patience, you may be able to photograph some of them too (good luck with the bats though!).
And kingfishers are just one of the many birds that may visit the pond. |

if the waters a light browny colour it could be clay but ive seen ditches with water with clay in them and it didnt stop newts frogs and other animals from breeding in there. but i agree with everyone else that you shouldnt try now.
