| | | Re: Pond Plants Hi there Liam, not worth putting any plants in now until the water starts to warm up in the spring. Post a photo of your pond, letting us know how much sunlight it gets, how deep the water is, whether it's purely a wildlife pond or if you have fish in it, etc etc. Then I am sure you will be inundated with suggestions!!! | | | Re: Pond Plants That sounds like a lovely project. I've had luck with bogbean, water plantain, fringed water lily, pickerell and water soldiers, together with Canadian Pondweed as a base oxygenator. Lots of frogs and newts in my pond! |

| | | Re: Pond Plants Hi and welcome,
if the pond is on farmland I strongly advise you to use only native plants as there are major problems in the wild with invasive aliens Canadian pond weed being one of them there are native oxygenators freely available.
Find a local aquatic shop so you can see the plants and never impulse buy get a book this one is good but it does list none native invasive aliens and there are no warnings about the plants..
Some to avoid..
Parrots feather,
Elodea crispa unless in a garden and can not escape.
Floating pennywort..avoid like the plague.
I find a lot of the insects I photograph in my garden are on the yellow flag iris and the oxeydaisy planted round the pond.
I also have lots of plants behind the pond that attract insects. The Rock & Water Garden Expert (Expert books): Amazon.co.uk: Dr D G Hessayon: Books |

| | | Re: Pond Plants Some pictures of the pond and its surrounding would be very useful - perhaps you could borrow a camera or get a friend/relative to photograph it. Is this a garden pond, or in a 'wild' area? | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
