It's still important to create shallow margins, as the greatest biodiversity occurs in water less than 10cm deep. Some photos would be really helpful, but in their absence, could you tell us more about how the pond is constructed, e.g. how is it lined (flexible liner or preformed), what shape is it, is it vertically sided or does it have planting shelves/sloping margins around the edges? Also, what is the surrounding environment like - garden/fields etc., what vegetation is nearby, any hard landscaping around the pond?

ive built my pond in april this year and have had success. i didnt start with much plants but now ive got hornwort, canadian pondweed/ elodea, a dwarf water lily, some reedy plants i collected and water cress. water cress is frost resistant so you can put it in. does it have any plants in it at the moment.

| | | Re: Pond Plants I will take some photos when i next go down there which will be at the weekend.It has not got a liner its just mud/clay.the shape is round and it has 3 or 4 sloping sides.The surrounding is fields and woodland.the vegetation around the pond are yellow rattle,Larch trees,oak trees and a few small flowers.
