Morecambe Bay Mitten Crab Warning

Local environmentalists are appealing information about sightings of the invasive mitten crab in Morecambe Bay and indeed, the whole North West: Virtual Lancaster News Blog: Monster Crab warning for Morecambe Bay beach combers.

The Mitten Crab Recording Project looks interesting. I guess now that these aliens have a good foothold in some of our estuaries there is no stopping them.
According to Mitten Crabs | Recording Invasive Species there are three known locations here in the southwest where these are found. I knew about the Teign estuary, south Devon, but not the north Devon site. And they are in the River Avon, Bristol. I feel the need for a crab hunt......

They're certainly abundant in the Thames + where we have natural banks such as by Syon Park + on some of the aits there are numerous cavities excavated by these crabs.
