| | | salmon on the river dove at ellastone/norbury border From the autumn watch blog on leaping salmon someone wrote
"The River Dove on the Derbyshire/Staffordshire border has salmon running now which can be seen at Ellastone/Norbury at the weir."
Can anyone else back this up as a place to go as I live in south yorkshire and it would be closer than settle.
Cheers

Found a BBC page about this spot BBC - Salmon leap in River Dove at Norbury
and some info from the trent river trust http://www.trentriverstrust.co.uk/
so going to give it a go in the morning. (But a trip to settle still sounds tempting) |

Barquar | What time did you go? I went from 1000 ish till around mid day and only saw 1!
Is the weir on the left on side of the bridge as you go from ellastone to norbury? Looking at the pics on the BBC site it look like I went to right one. Any pointers more than welcome. |

Is the afternoon best time not sure.?But two more blokes were there and 2 ladies walked up as we were leaving.

That sound like the place I went and it chucked it down but I did get a lovely view of a Kingfisher as it flew over the weir as well as a grey wagtail under the park bench. Have to try an afternoon visit during half term next week. (Need to be back during school time to pick little one up). At least I know I went to the right place and did see one |

| | | Re: salmon on the river dove at ellastone/norbury border Suggest making a note of the Dove's height from the EA's website here.... Environment Agency - River levels station data as and when you see the Salmon running. As the river level falls they will cease running. A big rise will stir them into action and the best time to see them is usually when the peak of the food is over and the level starts ot drop.
I used to work with the manage of the Trent RT, he's user friendly and worth getting in contact with for info. |
