| | | Whitish residue floating on pond We've had a wildlife pond since the spring, and every now and then I find a weird white oily residue floating on top. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? We have several resident frogs, several species of invertebrates and birds using the pond to wash in/drink from along with the usual oxygenating plants.
Thanks in advance...

Does it happen following rainfall?
Scummy stuff floating on top is often excess protein and prettymuch nothing to worry about. But I also get it after rainfall in mine, though that tends to be small bubbles. Again, perfectly normal, no real answers about why this happens but it does. |

Does it last for long or disappear quickly, absorbed into the water?
Cheers

I'm thinking it could be pigeon poo actually, though we also get loads of snails with a death wish. Will do some detective work and check after it's rained too.
Thanks for the suggestions!

I've fished out several HUGE drowned slugs over the past few weeks. Some evenings when I've gone out to the pond to check on the frogs with a torch and scare the cat away, I've noticed quite a few slugs and snails around the edge of the pond- sort of nosing at the water and poking at it with their antennae.
I do try and tell them they can't swim and to be careful, but they never pay any attention. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
