| | | Pike Parasite? (Bit Gruesome!) Hi,
Saw this dead pike out of the water lying on some concrete pilings under a bridge near Pangbourne on the Thames.
Appears to have some sort of parasite attached?
A bit yukky but it would help put my mind at rest if anyone knows what is going on with this!
Many thanks
Grrrr. Have uploaded my images but the 'library images' button isn't working so can't add them to this thread. Please see Images. Thanks!

What you see is the Pike's internal organs protruding from a hole in the ventral surface. It is in advancing decay and the flesh and skin is very soft, perhaps crows have started to eat the body and caused the hole.
It's almost impossible to say what the cause of death was. |

Many thanks for your speedy response.
That explanation makes sense - will stop wondering about it now.
Cheers for your help! |

| | | Re: Pike Parasite? (Bit Gruesome!) Pike can harbour a tapeworm which can transfer itself to humans. Advice for cooking pike is that they should be well cooked to kill any worms.
