Hello,
I have uploaded an image of a sponge specimen I came across whilst searching the tidewrack at Exmouth Beach. I am aware that it is probably dead but am curious as to what it could have been so I would like to ask if anyone has any idea?

This may be the Breadcrumb Sponge - Halichondria panicea which is a common encrusting sponge and variable in colour but usually greenish.
Don't put a label on it yet but wait for a more informed opinion.  Halichondria panicea - Breadcrumb Sponge (Sponge / Porifera Images)
They aren't the easiest things to ID when the corners have been knocked off. |
