Is it illegal too give away goldfish as prizes at fairs. Because a last year i won one at A local fair and when i got home everyone was saying it was illegal, but i still see them being won at fairs. So i was just wondering if it was Illegal or Not???  |

Apparently it is legal to give goldfish away as prizes, but it is illegal to give goldfish away to under-16's if there is no accompanying adult. |

the fair owner could also be had under welfare issues if it could be proved that the goldfish were subject to neglect or cruelty - for instance if they are confined in a very small bag for an excessive period or displaid in a very hot sun...

It should be illegal, because if someone gave a goldfish as a prize to someone who didn't want it, there's no knowing what that person could do. |

The Environment Secretary Margaret Beckett recently dropped the ban from the planned Animal Welfare Bill. It will I'm sure return for further debate!
