| | | Re: What on earth is this...? The pump is purely for a waterfall I have, which seems to oxygenate the water quite efficiently as it splashes into the pond. The local bird population also love it, and queue up on the fence, then wash in the waterfall run, then dry off on a nearby lilac tree, all in a very orderly fashion!
One day I counted almost 200 birds ranging from finches and starlings to wood pigeons in the queue! I'm sure it's not ideal for pond balance but it's a great sight to watch and also helps water everything within a 6 foot distance of the waterfall |

yes thats a rat tailed maggot. they live in my drain as well as a few in my pond. i think they eat algae as they rummage in the mud with their tubes at the surface.
