Pondlife Books....

Please post any pondlife books you can recommend - Obviously helpful for newbe's but we never stop learning. Links would be extra helpful.

Before last June I knew nothing whatsoever and also had never heard of WAB. The only books I have are Hamlyn's "Pond Owner's Handbook" by John Dawes and Richard Lewington's "Guide to Garden Wildlife". The Dawes book is well thought out but has far too much content on fishkeeping for my needs. The Lewington book is stunning just for Richard's illustrations but not enough content for pondlife - It is an excellent overall guide though.

This one is good: NHBS - Collins Photo Guide to Lakes, Rivers, Streams and Ponds of Britain and North-West Europe - RSR Fitter and R Manuel. It's out of print but you might be able to get a second hand copy - there are a couple currently on Amazon although somewhat expensive: Collins Photo Guide to Lakes, Rivers, Streams and Ponds of Britain and North-West Europe Collins Field Guide: Amazon.co.uk: Richard Sidney Richmond Fitter, Richard Manuel: Books.

That Collins guide looks very comprehensive: "The whole range of freshwater organisms are described and illustrated, from algae, amoeba, flowering plants, ferns and mosses to fishes, reptiles, amphibians, birds and mammals."
