Mystery Pond life.

Hi all, I visited Minsmere RSPB reserve at the weekend and got chatting to a lady who was running a pond dipping session for Kids and she showed me these creatures that she could not identify, anyone know what they are.

Looks like some sort of caddisfly larvae but I could be wrong..

Ah we had these at work last year and never 100% worked out what they were. We decided some sort of midge larva was most likely as they didn't quite look right for caddisfly. Hopefully someone can give a more accurate ID

I thought caddis as the green thing was inside then came out as if it was living in a casing but its nothing like the caddis in my pond.

It doesn't look like a Caddis larva. I agree with Ukwildlifeo that it looks like some kind of case-building fly larva (Diptera, probably a Chironomid midge).

If these are like the ones Ive seen, which they look like, they came in and out of the case but did not leave it

I read that these cases are made of loose silk.

They are Chironimid midge cases, some of them make loose cases or tubes out of silk.
