| | | water beetle identification hey, I keep seeing these beetles in my pond, there not pond skaters, water boatman, or those black roundish ones (i forgot the name). I havent got a pic yet but they are quite slow and clumsy, they have a gold shell, and i usually see them on the surface. Up first i thought it was a beetle that had fallen in but when i went to save it it swam to the bottom and burried itself. thanks for reading |

| | | Re: water beetle identification no not them, but i have seen them in there to and wondered what they are, so thanks, Any way a bit more on this beetle, ive noticed that there are small black dots on its golden shell, and ive never seen one bigger than 1cm in length (give or take a millimitre or two) does anyone know what it is |

| | | Re: water beetle identification I think we need to see a photo of your beetles first. We have about 250 species of UK water beetle and there are several that might fit your description.
If your pond is a fairly bare pond (not much vegetation), I would suggest that Agabus nebulosus might fit the bill. Does it look anything like this ? http://faunedelaisne.pagesperso-oran..._nebulosus.jpg |
