| | | Re: Worth setting up a pond? King Edward - thanks again for another great link, I'll maybe print that pdf out, would like to have that and read through it off screen. I can certainly keep the right side longer or plant it up a bit and keep the front as it is. I seen some aquatic compost in my local B&Q when I was down at the weekend, was fairly cheap, around £4 a bag I think.
Red Robin - I agree about the alpines, some nice ones available at a garden centre not too far from us and a great selection as well so I'll definately be picking a few up.
Kathateria - any joy with your image posting problem? |

| | | Re: Worth setting up a pond? You'll need to decide what you are doing with the edge if the grass.
If you keep it, decide on the edge of where you will mow to, and you will need to avoid mowing the edge when baby frogs and toads are emerging. You won't be the only one to kneel down and inspect the lawn before mowing!
Also for a small pond, you may find that the grass grows into the pond too much. If it does, next year, edge up the lawn leaving a planting bed, and plant this zone up with marginals- yellow iris, water forgetmenot, brooklime, water avens etc.
If you plant marginals in pots, you don't actually need compost of any sort. Washed gravel will do the job too.
Oxygenators can be tied onto a stone and dropped in the water.
