I didn't know what it was at first then when blown up on the computer I saw it and did a search on the web where the id was confirmed pity the shots didn't come out. |

| | | Re: cadisfly larvae Yes really fascinating creatures. Some of them hatch in huge numbers and some are just huge - like the great red sedge.
A wacky fact about caddis.
About 25 years ago a grannom (a species of caddis) hatch temporarily closed a road through the centre of Salisbury. They were in such enormous numbers that they clogged up the windscreens of cars and lorries driving over the river Avon and caused a traffic jam. I was living north of Salisbury at the time and I remember well the enormous hatches that we had around Great Durnford.
The movement of literally millions flying upstream is one of natures most spectacular sights. Sadly it doesn't happen much down on the Wiltshire Avon any more but can still be seen on river like theTweed. |
