What is the bright red worms in the gravel of my pond?
My pond is just a big container in the groungd with gravel (natural colour) and 2 plants in.

They are at the bottom of the pond

Most likely to be blood worms

Possibly "Bloodworm". These are larvae of a harmless midge, called Chironomus.

They could be tubifex bloodworm swim about and have to surface to breath Tubifex live in colonies in the detritus at the bottom of the pond.

Bloodworm (Chironomus sp.) breathe by means of gills and only come to the surface as pupae when they emerge as adults. Tubifex never, of course, come to the surface.
