| | | Plants around a pond ? Hello,
We have just lined a 24' x 15' x 2' foot concrete pond ( it continually leaked).
The liner comes up over the concrete lip about 6"; we have folded the liner back under itself and banked some sieved topsoil up to it.
As the photos show there will be an area of liner showing between the water and the soil; we are really not quite sure what to do next.
We assume that we now plant in the soil and allow vegetation to eventually hang over the edge; we also have wild flower seeds to randomly scatter onto the soil. (we have also put pond plants on the ledges.
Bearing in mind that this is a wild life pond and the areas around the pond are not particularly wet what would anyone suggest.
We also have a stone slabs but these are only in a few spots.
Thank you |

| | | Re: Plants around a pond ? hi
looks good.
first thoughts...
for permanent cover which will help a variety of creatures i'd go for some evergreens and semi evergreens. some carex oshimensis 'evergold' with heuchera 'obsidian' behind it looks good then contrast this with ophiopogon planiscapus 'nigrescens' with a lime green/yellow heuchera behind like 'lime ricky' or 'key lime pie'. add some mid green bergenias to break it up a bit plus logs and log piles and then sow some annual wildflowers to the gaps for now.

| | | Re: Plants around a pond ? Hello Nightshade,
We are interested in plants that will attract wildlife but what I'm really asking about is some plants that we can put in the soil immediately next to the liner that will eventually cover the liner and hold the soil back. ( The liner between the water and the soil).
Thank you.

| | | Re: Plants around a pond ? I have strawberry plants, rhubarb, and white foxgloves around my pond all of which make good cover for the frogs in summer. I have just made a rock cave out of stones for the frogs to hide in and would like to encourage a moss and grass area on and around this.I assume from your picture you are going to weigh the liner down with some stones or paving? |

| | | Re: Plants around a pond ? I have seen people use upside down turf and plant into this as it covers the liner and gives a base for the plants to grow into I would do this if it was my pond this also gives newts frogs ect somewhere to shelter where its damp and cool in the heat of the sun. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
