Please ID this newt!?

Hi guys, I'm a new poster, and I have a bit of a puzzle for you! A friend of mine saw this reptile/amphibian, looks like a newt, and possibly a rough skinned newt, but are these supposed to be found in the UK!?

Any ideas?

I'd say so, providing its fully grown. Males would have a crest by now I would have thought?

Its a female Smooth newt.

I wouldn't like to call this one! Do you have any further pictures of it? Or a size estime?

It looks quite chunky like a GCN and the head is quite broad but its eyes and nose look quite smooth newty....

As has been said, we need a size scale or some more pics.

Pretty certain its not a Crestie female or juvenile - the hint of the underside colour on the throat says "white with black spots" and there is no orange at all on the underside of the tail.

The photo does give the impression of a "rough" skin, but I think this may well be a slightly "dry" and dusty female Smooth Newt in terrestrial phase, I think a lot of the roughness is down to dirt on the animal.

Looks like a smooth newt to me, in terms of shape and features. Its skin does look a bit crestie like in that its a bit lumpy looking but i think maybe its just very dry and maybe crawled through something sandy perhaps?
