| | | Possible plants for a bog I have made a small bog next to my pond. The aim is to attract insects, beetles, slugs, snails, etc and also support the pond by giving things like frogs some more food. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions of some good plants that would fit into this ideal? The bog has quite a bit of clay in and is in full shade. I don't really mind leaving it unplanted either if that would be best for it's purpose.
Cheers! |

| | | Re: Possible plants for a bog The list is large but a lot will depend on the size of your bog. Here are just a few:-
Iris ensata, Iris kaempferi, Iris ensata 'Variegata', Iris Sibirica.
Bog Pimpernel.
Primulas, (many species and vars.)
Marsh Marigold
Skunk Cabbage.
Meadow Sweet.
Water Avens,
Purple Loosestrife.
Globe Flower.
Good Garden centres will soon have these and many others in stock.
There are plenty of good online sites, just google 'bog plants' to see what these look like.

| | | Re: Possible plants for a bog A few others -
Snake's head fritillary
Ragged Robin
Lobelia Cardinalis (though this could be difficult if the garden has a slug or snail problem)
I also recommend the The Rock & Water Garden Expert by D G Hessayson.

| | | Re: Possible plants for a bog Thanks for the ideas. I think I'll go for the 2 or 3 Water avens then wait to see what else turns up or moves from the pond. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
