| | | Hugh's Fish Fight You either like him or you don't. That's Hugh Whittingstall. I know he's not everyones cup of tea, but his programme on Channel 4 is well worth seeing.
It highlights the amount of fish - of all species - that is discarded because of the European Common Fisheries Policy. We all know that fish are being caught, and because fishermen quickly reach their quota of one particular species, any surplus catches of that species just gets dumped back in the sea. Tons of it. Literally. Every commercial trawler, from every port, probably every day, dumps important food fish back in the sea - tons of it. Dead.
Hugh's Fish Fight on Channel 4 tonight focused on our own waters. There is another programme, tomorrow, featuring his fish fight in more distant waters.
Certainly, if you missed tonight's programme, catch it on 4 On Demand. Hugh's Fish Fight - 4oD - Channel 4
Hugh Whittingstall - you either like him or you don't. Whichever, you need to see this programme.

| | | Re: Hugh's Fish Fight I found that one of the most disturbing things about this program, was that our fisheries minister, Richard Benyon (if that's how you spell it), was unable to identify, some of the most common fish that our fishermen risk their lives to catch. I thought the Plaice, of all the fish, would have been a dead cert! What a total waste of space he is! It's no wonder that the fish stocks are in the state that they're in.

| | | Re: Hugh's Fish Fight Quiz: do you know your sea fish? | Life and style | guardian.co.uk theres the test, all you have to do is get over 3 right to replace the fisheries minister. It is not a hard test since they are all native the the UK. I just can not see how the man could get it so wrong, he must be sent images of these fish all the time.
shame they down played the work the fisheries scientists play.

But seriously....there must be a way in which we can utilise this wasted fish. Like giving it away to schools or old peoples homes. As long as nobody profits from the fish, then surely there shouldn't be a problem? Maybe I'm just being naive though?

I'm sorry I missed this. I do like H.F.W and would've liked to have seen it.
