About how long is that little fishy?
In the drier weather I top up my small wildlife pond with river water - Might I accidentally import some baby ones?

| | | Re: Stickleback I reckon so, having found a small stickleback in my STRICTLY NO FISH pond that must have come from the stickleback pond. Goodness knows how I missed it, I don't even know how I did it. It's easily done if the fish are there.
Lovely image.

Thx Deb
Don't those little Sticklebacks have cute faces with expressive big eyes
So, if they get accidentally imported, what predates on them? (apart from bigger fish).

| | | Re: Stickleback Nowt that I know of in my pond. They tend to die from competition for food. I can't do anything, I have to watch nature taking its course. No matter how cute their little faces or how expressive their eyes.
In other people's gardens I imagine corvids, kingfishers - birds like that - will catch them if they can. I think they'd be too small for herons, but not sure.

| | | Re: Stickleback Yes, I tend to watch nature take its course too - It's one of the joys of having a 'wildlife' pond. Minimal maintenance just to stop it clogging up but the beauty of a small pond is that it's easy just to clear excessive algae or crop plants if necessary.
There's obviously loads of fish such as Trout, even Salmon, in the nearby small river where I get my pond water. And no, I don't have a licence!

Went to get some more pics of them today but couldnt find any in the pond. Some idiot has dumped loads of goldfish in there, 2 have died and I could not find anything alive in the net when I dip except for a couple of snails |

As I use a bucket dipped in the river I should be able to easily spot any in it before transferring to my pond, which I use a watering can to do for less pond disturbance.
