| | | Water louse I finally got some half decent pics of this often ignored species, even by pond dippers.
Every bit as cute as woodlice, just a bit damper! |

| | | Re: Water louse Wonderful little creatures, aren't they?
I've spent hours kneeling by my pond watching them shuffling around in and out between the stones.
Admittedly, that was in the summer!
I'm just hoping that they'll survive the - 8 temps we've had lately.
I assume they'll be in the deeper part of the pond and won't be affected too much? |

| | | Re: Water louse This one was in a shallow ditch no more than 20 or 30cm deep, so your will be fine. The 'fact' that ponds need to be deep to avoid freezing solid is not a fact at all according to pond conservation, who actually recommend shallower ponds as they hold a greater diversity than deep ones often. |

| | | Re: Water louse Excellent photo!
I've seen a few scampering around my small wildlife pond.

| | | Re: Water louse Lovely shot Neil! Reminded me of the evening in Clumber Park when we shone a powerful torch into the lake and it attracted all sorts, including thousands of these. And we'd left our cameras back in the bunkhouse!
