| | | Jack Can anyone tell me if cravelle jacks have been recorded in british waters,
we seen a strange fish but did not get a pic but got a really good look and it might have been a jack, was injured though, we think there might have been an otter involved.
by the way this was at the point in inverness at the local nature reserve, |

| | | Re: Jack Hello ladyhawk,
My notes state this :Crevalle Jack distrib trop & temp waters / Atlantic Ocean, range Nova Scotia, Canada - Uruguay / western Atlantic / Portugal - Angola / eastern Atlantic, incl Med.
So it is eminently possible they are around.

| | | Re: Jack I would think it's doubtfull it's a CJ with the distribution and time of year. I've never been in a position to catch or see one but have a friend who has. These are fast fish and unless trapped or injured I cannot imagine an Otter being involved but there again I do not know the details. I have evidence of sunfish, long-finned tunny and other small stuff in inshore waters in the northwest and would keep an open mind about pelagic species presence.
I suggest a wrasse species might be similar looking to the CJ in certain circumstances. |

| | | Re: Jack It appears to be two fish swimming side by side, I can't make out the double dorsal but can see what you mean perhaps.
This surface action reminds me of Mullet behaviour and the fin arrangement fits with your observation of double dorsal.
Yes, I agree from the image Wrasse are out of the frame. |

We have had very high tides up this way in the last week its a possiblity it came up the gulf stream and ended up here in the Moray Firth there was an otter swimming about maybe chancing his luck as it was quite a big fish |

| | | Re: Jack Judging by the fins, I would say that is definitely not a jack crevalle. Ive been catching them recently over in the states in the atlantic. They tend so swim at a fairly fast rate and tend to stay lower down in the water column. But i could be wrong. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
