| | | North Yorkshire Rockpooling Sites I do a lot of rockpooling around the Scarborough area, mostly Holbeck and Scalby Mills, but a bit at Cornelian Bay as well. I was wondering if anyone on here could recommend some excellent rockpooling spots that I haven't been to.
Or, if anyone knows of some particularly interesting species that can be seen at other Yorkshire sites. For example, in the Scarborough area I have seen 20 different fish species, but I have never seen a Sea Stickleback. I've also never seen Harbour Crab, or Arch-Fronted Swimmer Crab, or Pearly Top Shell which can be found in some areas in Yorkshire (would love to see that!). I've never seen Pycnogonum litorale which used to be found at Scarborough, but I've never seen it these past three years.
If anyone can recommend any good general sites for rockpooling, or sites with particularly interesting species, then I would love to hear about them.
Tell me about your best finds as well! |

| | | Re: North Yorkshire Rockpooling Sites Hello Yascha.
I live in Whitby and I go rockpooling at Sandsend when I can. Earlier this year I braved a perilous scramble down the cliffs at Kettleness to see what the pools were like there, and I have to say they were outstanding. The highlight for me was this beautiful Grey Sea Slug.
There was also an amazing carved rock with what looked like South Sea Island style faces on it. Google OUT ON YE! for my Whitby blog. There are pictures of this fascinating stone there.

| | | Re: North Yorkshire Rockpooling Sites It sounds like somewhere I should go and have a look. That Grey Sea Slug is beautiful, I've only ever seen one at Scarborough.
I looked at your blog and saw the faces carved into the rock - they are really strange. It is hard to tell how old they might be. |

Regular visitor to Whitby now (prefer the pubs ) and me and the missus always have a ferret around in the pools, still can't beat the excitement of find a crab under a stone
I don't know if its my imagination but is there more life in the pools now than 20 years ago.I ask this as thats when we first started going and the pools seamt fairly bare but these days there seems to be more life in there.
Any where along that section of coast - Whitby,Sandsend,Runswick,Robin Hoods Bay - has always been a good rock poooling area.
