| | | Fish disease - can anyone help please? Hi, I am having problems with my fish - 2 have died, one had a 1" sore/frayed area on its side, the other looked perfect. I have many others now in pond with the same sore patches. The edges of the sore are frayed. I went to pet shop, and purchased a liquid to put in pond - for bacterial infections. This is almost 2 weeks ago now, and fish still got patches.
Can anyone advise please - I am worried I am going to lose them all.
The water looks clear, no debris visible. Pump and filter both working.
I have attached a couple of pics so you can see what the patches look like.
Thanks in advance, |

You need to isolate each fish for best results and place a small amount of aquariam salt in the water of their new surroundings. Continue using the anti bacterial preparation as directed. It seems that you may have to clean out the pond if all the fish are suffering from ulcerated wounds. |

It will be difficult to find enough isolation containers - I think I have at least 6 with signs of the infection. That's why I added it to the pond.
The pond was built last year, fish survived the winter - do you mean clear out the whole pond? Do you have any idea what causes this kind of bacterial infection?
I will try to isolate some of them, get the salt and see how they go.
Thanks very much |

It may be the fish will in time respond to your current treatment but I still consider isolation of the worse affected to be an essential part of the treatment. For further informtion google in Goldfish diseases and then check out Fishdoc.co.uk for some useful info. |

| | | Re: Fish disease - can anyone help please? Have you got a good aquatic shop nearby who would come out and take a look ? My Dad had something similar in his pond many years ago and the local shop sent someone round to test the all of the enviornmentala before they even talked about treatment.
In his case he was lucky it was just 2 fish, his pond past all the tests, after treatment one survived the other died.
Also how big is the pond, how many fish etc

| | | Re: Fish disease - can anyone help please? remove all the infected fish to a tank or container of a known volume to make it possible to treat.
if this is not possible then it could be in the fishes best interest to be killed as the water is cooling so will their immune system and they will die and rot in the pond over winter.
at least in a container you can provide lots of aeration and also treat with out affecting the entire ecosystem within the pond
