| | Hard white bumps on my koi - help please 2 of my 3 koi, about 5-6 years old, developed white hard irregular "bumps" on different parts of the body, from .25 of an inch on the body to a long "blob" on end of the tail, also one on the side of the mouth. The bumps look soft but are hard to touch. We have tried everything known to get rid of it but just stays the same. Hasnt got worse or better for the last year. Cant find examples on the internet. Thought it might be calcium build up as we put salt in the water. We tried scraping it off but seems part of the fish. Can anyone help please? |

| | | Re: Hard white bumps on my koi - help please If they are hard waxy-wart like lumps, it's probably carp pox, which as far as I'm aware is caused by drops in water temperature or stress. And whilst not fatal to the fish, is untreatable.
Do an image search for carp pox or koi pox, and see if the images brought up match with the type of lumps your fish have.
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: Hard white bumps on my koi - help please Hi Eloise. What you have may well be koi pox.It sounds worse than it is.It is common in koi, some have it from young some develop it,in some fish it comes and goes.Search google images to see some koi pox photo's.It is suggested it is worse in cold water and as summer arrives and the water warms up it can retract the symptoms.I have many koi and most seem to get slightly better in summer but not all.It is not harmfull to them but there is no great cure as far as i know. Please be aware this is only a suggestion and there are some fungus growths that can look similar and these can be treated with a treatment containing malachite and formalin but i only ever treat koi as a last resort ,i have learnt over many years they are hardy fish, but treatments can have bad effects on your pond filtration and sometimes fish react badly.so only treat if necessary and dont treat at all for carp pox.
Hope this helps

| | Re: Hard white bumps on my koi - help please Thank you so much. I checked images and yes it looks like carp pox. It says its contagious but Koi have built up an immune system against it which, I assume, is why my other one is clear. At least now I won't have to keep buying different medication to try to make them better which was probably putting them under more stress.
Thank you again. Much appreciation for your time and help. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
